Households with an annual income of < $50K are likely to have fallen behind on their health checks post-pandemic. But due to decades of institutionalized racism and abuse through healthcare, there is mistrust among Black communities in the healthcare system
The Solution
Courtside Care is a collaborative effort between Toronto Raptors, Sun Life, LAMP Community Health Center, and Black Health and Social Services Hub (BHSS), focused on delivering health care screenings to Black families in a safe and trusted environment. The event took place on January 30th, 2025 at St. Marcellinus Secondary School. Families received health passports, facilitating visits to healthcare providers, while children participated in a basketball clinic with Raptors Development Coaches, alongside Raptors Players Immanuel Quickley and Ja'Kobe Walter.
Our Why
Empowering Black families to take ownership of their health through meaningful programming and access to healthcare screenings in safe spaces by Black providers, to keep kids healthy, strengthen families, and increase engagement in sport.
